Asbestos Policy & Training
- Any kind of new or refurbishment work or work involving the strip out of old services should be risk assessed. Particular attention should be given to the risk of asbestos and its potential exposure. Regardless of the information contained in the Contract Pre-Tender Health & Safety Plan and/or the Asbestos Register (if present), GD Heating & Gas Limited will ensure that a suitable and sufficient risk assessment is carried out to determine if any substance that it has to work on may be an asbestos containing material.
- This review and assessment will take place at the earliest opportunity, possibly at tender stage. Where the contents of the material cannot be established it should be treated as being asbestos, until such time as we receive documented evidence.
- No work will be allowed to commence on any material where its contents are not known.
- It is company policy that the requirements of the relevant legislation are met. The procedure for ensuring the standards on site meet the requirements of the regulations are as follows:
- Any asbestos-containing materials on site should have been identified before work commences.
- Work with asbestos insulation, asbestos coatings and asbestos insulation board must be removed by an HSE-licensed contractor.
- If any suspected asbestos containing material is found during the execution of works or the contents of any material is in doubt, then STOP WORK and notify the relevant personnel on site.
- Identification of asbestos-containing material is not easy and you can only be sure they are asbestos if a specialist laboratory has tested them. Always presume any material contains asbestos unless there is strong evidence to suggest it does not.
- You should always have site of the asbestos risk register before starting any works.
- You should have a formal statement provided to you to the effect that no asbestos is on the premises.
